Campaign UNITE

Our club joins the UNITE campaign (TOGETHER AGAINST VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN), announced by the UN Secretary-General in 2008 and will last until 2030. It is always 16 days of activism – 25. 11. – 10. 12. in a campaign focused on cyber violence and violence against women. The main color of the campaign is orange. Orange, as a bright and optimistic color, represents a future without violence against women and girls. Each year, the UNiTE campaign focuses on a specific topic. The campaign lasts until 10.12., which is Human Rights Day.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN´S DAY

International Women's Day (IWD) falls on 8 March every year. It is an internationally respected holiday introduced by the United Nations to commemorate the 1908 strike of New York seamstresses. At the time, women sought shorter working hours, better pay, voting rights and an end to child labour. The first official women's holiday was celebrated on February 28, 1909, the date of March 8 was not established until after the First World War and International Women's Day as such in 1975.

At the beginning of the 20th century, one of the main goals of the holiday was to win women's suffrage, which was most deserved by British women along with American women. At present, International Women's Day emphasizes women's solidarity in the field of equal opportunities, justice, peace and development. Femininity and emancipation are celebrated, which unfortunately is not a matter of course anywhere in the world even in the 21st century.
