30th anniversary of SI club Prague Celebration

September 12th – 13th, 2025

43 participants from various European SI clubs accepted the invitation to our celebration. On Friday, September 12th, the Mayor of Prague, Mr. Bohuslav Svoboda, received us at his residence on Mariánské Square. After a toast and a small snack, we were able to enjoy the beautiful halls on the 1st and 2nd floors of the building accompanied by a guide.

On Saturday, September 13th, we met in the unusually designed gardens below Prague Castle, which have been part of UNESCO's monuments since 1992. Ing. Arch. I. Truxová, head of the NPÚ, introduced us to the history of the historical gardens, then journalist J. Matyášová highlighted the role of women in society. After snacks, visitors could go on an individual tour of the gardens.

In the evening, King John of Luxembourg and his wife, Elisabeth of Přemyslid, welcomed us to the renovated Minorite monastery in the Old Town. History is written here in every place where both of the forementioned rulers actually stayed at the beginning of the 14th century. The gala dinner was held in a festive spirit, including the symbolic lighting of 4 candles, greetings from representatives of individual SI clubs, and musical accompaniment by the Solideo ensemble. We look forward to the contact we have established with the director of the HELAS agency, Mrs. H. Kohoutová, which could open the gates of the monastery for further events.

We believe that all of our guests were satisfied with our celebration and will be happy to return to Prague.

Rotary club at our place

2. 9. 202

At the September meeting of the club, we were visited by Mr. Petr Javořík, a long-time member of the Rotary Poděbrady club, and the current president, Ms. Natallia Makovik. The guests took advantage of the initiative of our club member Z. Ilinčevová and her lecture at their place in Poděbrady.

We introduced each other to our programs and framework activities, saying that we would be happy to continue the previous good cooperation, which was interrupted for several years due to the existential problems of the Rotary club in Poděbrady.

Representatives of the Rotary Poděbrady club will continue to attend our "Glass of Wine" event for the public. They expressed the hope that we will again help them with their annual event of visiting students from abroad in the summer of 2026 when they visit Prague. Unfortunately, we had to end the friendly atmosphere due to time constraints for the organizational arrangements of our large event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of our club.

30th Anniversary

The year 2025 is a jubilee year for our club – it was founded 30 years ago! We wish to celebrate this anniversary and organize a meeting in September 2025, to which we will invite friendly SOROPTIMIST clubs from here and abroad.

On this occasion, we would like to thank all our friends who were comming to our events and supported us both by participating and by financial contributions that we handed over to those in need.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN´S DAY

International Women's Day (IWD) falls on 8 March every year. It is an internationally respected holiday introduced by the United Nations to commemorate the 1908 strike of New York seamstresses. At the time, women sought shorter working hours, better pay, voting rights and an end to child labour. The first official women's holiday was celebrated on February 28, 1909, the date of March 8 was not established until after the First World War and International Women's Day as such in 1975.

At the beginning of the 20th century, one of the main goals of the holiday was to win women's suffrage, which was most deserved by British women along with American women. At present, International Women's Day emphasizes women's solidarity in the field of equal opportunities, justice, peace and development. Femininity and emancipation are celebrated, which unfortunately is not a matter of course anywhere in the world even in the 21st century.
